Petrol heads as well as the pubic in general are loving the sight and sound of this high performance sports coupe. Sadly, few of them will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of these magnificent beasts. I swear, if we could find a way to bottle the sound of this car, we could make a fortune. This is the sixth generation Camaro and it has been purpose built with aerodynamics and performance top of mind while still managing to look super sleek and stylish.

It will be just happy on the drag strip as it will on the open road. Let’s start with the obvious, under the hood. You will not be disappointed with the mighty supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 pushing out an incredible 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. That sort of power will see the Camaro go from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds and eat up the quarter mile in 11.4 seconds.

Transmission comes to you in either a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic option. They have dropped 200 pounds off the earlier models while still packing in a host of new features. The front end has spacious modified upper and lower grilles, a carbon-fiber composite hood extractor to shift air out of the front and reduce lift and they have tweaked the rocker and splitter. They have also used the hollowed out “flowtie” Chev badge previously only used on the Z/28.

To assist with the aerodynamics, they have also incorporated a rear wing. The convertible option is brilliant and you can even open or close the top on the go at under 30 mph. Keeping such a powerful machine at that sort of speed will be a challenge. The interior is subtle but sophisticated quality. They have not skimped on the tech either with Heads-Up displays and wireless smartphone charging as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. So how does it stack against the competition?

It certainly beats the Mustang Shelby GT350 in terms of power so we wait to see how they retaliate. When it comes to the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, it a lot more of a closer call. The Hellcat is fitted with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 producing 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. For those wanting to see how the two perform side by side, John Hennessey recently put them to the test. It makes for an interesting, exhilarating video and that’s all I am going to say for now.
